The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a wood and I -

I took the one less travelled by,

And that has made all the difference.

~Robert Frost~

So goes the last stanza of Robert Frost's now very well-trodden poem.  Still, its message is compelling.  It is a message that many of us want to heed but fear, societal pressure and a myriad of other forces prevent us from taking a step.  The compelling path is usually one that brings us alive, gets us excited and aligns with our values.  It's the path of dreams, longing, fulfillment and energy.  It's the path that requires us to trust ourselves and be courageous.  It can bring joy and it can bring risk.  For some of us, it's like air to breathe, we can't imagine following the crowd, risk or no risk.   For most of us, it takes fierce courage.  The world doesn't necessarily support us living extraordinary lives.  It's better to be safe and "the same as" however numbing that can become.  If you are someone who wants to take the road less travelled, reconnecting with your values and what makes you feel totally engaged can jumpstart the process.  Hey - you might even want to hire a coach!

Definitely Not The Status Quo

In thinking about what to write about in this first post it came to me that I know I am NOT about cruising along the status quo stream.  The name of the eclectic pop cuture program on CBC radio came to me (Definitely Not The Opera) and the title of the post was born.

I am someone who has never been content with the status quo.  In my work and in my life I love to (feel compelled to...) look for ways to enhance, enrich and generally make things better. Living life on autopilot is not what I'm about.  I am an organizational Development Consultant and Coach which means I help people, leaders and organizations become more engaged, excited, fulfilled, impactful and yes, more effective at what they do.  We're all on this earth with a unique purpose and ability to have an impact.  What's yours?
